MSO Mclaren P1

Drive Festival

UFO P1

Mclaren made waves in the automotive industry with the release of the P1 in 2013, and is the successor to one of the most valuable and iconic cars in the world, The Mclaren F1.

Containing a 3.8L Twin Turbo V8 w/ an electric motor creating a hybrid 903 bhp hypercar that launches 0-100 in 2.8 seconds. Mclaren introduced carbon fibre chassis into Formula 1 in 1981, and the Mclaren F1 was the very first road car to be built around a carbon fibre tub. The engineering 20 years past the original F1 is incorporated into the P1, and with the advances in technology, it allowed Mclaren to create this as the final product.

However, this special P1 went a step further and has the entire carbon body exposed in this green carbon. Estimated value $1.5-$3 Million.

Hapy Hipi

Meet Tim Schmidt, more commonly known as Hapy Hipi. An advocate for automotives with an eccentric car collection of all sorts. I was able to visit his "Horsepower Haven" earlier this summer located in King City, ON and will be doing an article on his ridiculous collection in the near future. His beautiful 2014 P1 however, rolled off the line as Chassis #002 of 375 Total. Mclaren kept Chassis #001 to themselves, so this P1 would be the first example to be delivered to a customer, however it didn't come with this exposed carbon package off the line. In 2015, Mclaren announced their MSO (Mclaren Special Operations) Exposed Carbon Fibre option in which the car would be sent back to HQ and be reassembled with a complete exposed carbon body for a slight fee.

Drive Festival

In the second annual Drive Festival, Tim was kind enough to bring out two of his vehicles to participate in the weekend event. His MSO Carbon Fibre P1 & his exposed Red Carbon Bugatti Chiron. In the Dream Car Speed Run, his wife was driving the P1 and did it ever look good in motion. Tim usually brings out his car's to shutdown some of the events throughout the year, I was never lucky enough to see his cars in person, until this weekend in September 2022. This blog is not too in depth, but it's meant to point out the amazing work done on this one off P1. Already one of my favourite cars ever built, definitely in my personal Top 5 & is one of the three hypers to make up the Holy Trinity (LaFerrari, 918, P1) it is seriously a timeless car. Carbon work is admired as it is, but to have this green carbon tint on such a car is a true automotive masterpiece. It is believed that there was only a handful of P1's sent back to get this option, but who knows. I believe Mclaren offered only 20 slots, one of them being in King City, ON.
