997.1 gt3rs "pmpkn"
Beginning: The Owner
Nelson has had a fascination for Cars since he can remember, which led him to picking up his first camera. He had grown up with the evolving car scene in Toronto, and began with enjoying Italians like Ferrari & Lamborghini specifically. Aesthetics and the shape/design of the Italian cars were what caught his attention and like most car enthusiasts, each car had its own unique personality.
Automotive passion grew through certain phases, starting with aesthetics and shapes. Moving on, the engineering behind the machines, and the function or use of each part intrigued him which led him down the path of understanding the designs, mechanics, parts and philosophy behind the creators of such vehicles.
997.1 GT3RS - The best rs?
Produced in 2006 & 2007, the second generation of the GT3RS and possibly the last with racing heritage origins like analog gauges, liquid cooled Mezger engine, manual transmission and much more. In Nelson's opinion, the 997.1 is the pinnacle of 911 engineering.
Specifications
The GT3RS is a Homologation car, meaning that it is a model produced in order to be accepted into GT Racing. The 997.1 GT3RS is a true race car, dumbed down to make it street legal, but there's racing heritage pumping through its blood - or in this case, it's oil. The differences between the GT3 and the modified RS version is a wider rear end, some upgraded carbon parts, and upgraded with race gearing for the transmission. This specific "Pumpkin RS" is fitted with a roll cage from factory, meaning its the Clubsport version which also featured a fire extinguisher & race harness.
- 3.6 L Multipoint Injection, 415 HP @ 7600 RPM
- 6 Speed Manual Transmission w/ Race Gearing
- 0-60 MPH in 4.2s with a top speed of 193 MPH
Homologation race cars
GT Racing & Le Mans took the pedestal as far as interest goes, because the relatability and possibility of owning a road legal vehicle that is pure racing car would be as close as you could get to a true GT Car. The hallmark & spirit of racing is to race cars that you can also purchase and enjoy. Homologation cars are the cream of the crop.
Owning a Homologation car gives you the feeling of being close to a true race car and brings you behind the wheel to experience the history, racing past, passion behind the engineering and of course the pure rawness of a race car.
Driving at the right time, in the right moment, in the right place is what it's all about.
Conductor of the machine
What is true passion? Defined as "strong and barely controllable emotion."
Sunday morning cars & coffee’s are like a ritual to car guys - a special meaning to Nelson, it was the treat for a hard working week to bring out a car and share passions with other like minded individuals, which would blossom into great connections and conversation surrounding a specific piece of machinery. This RS is actually from California, and it had spent 12 years of ownership in California because of the superior weather and driving roads where the car could be fully expressed and unleashed.
Nelson’s Idol, Gordon Murray, is one of the legendary names in automotive engineering who designed the Mclaren F1 and participated in multiple world championships in Formula 1. A man that was very capable of expressing and articulating designs and engineering so pure for racing, that it opened his eyes on the importance and ingenuity of clever mechanical engineering which led him to pursue this as a career - separate from cars though. Defining that fine line between Personal Passion & Professional Passion allowed this passion for automotive culture to remain just as important to him as it was when he was younger. This RS was by far one of the most memorable cars I've been able to shoot this year in 22'.

Thankyou to Nelson for taking the time to speak with me about his passion and automotive views on what true engineering is about, and thankyou to RCLUB for the great environment & hospitality as a first timer.
